Notes on the Carols

* There are an abundance of alternative musical settings for the Magnificat...have a word with the local vicar if you encounter any problems locating one that is suitable. But The Old Lamp-Lighter Song will defeat you. First published in 1946, we finally turned up a copy in the Barbican Music Library...and have thought it best to include a copy here. As for the alternatives...choose whatever works for you!
