Paul Carey

Paul Carey is one of only a handful of Rye Councillors that were born and bred in the town. His family have a long tradition of involvement with the Rye Council and many other organisations within the ancient walls including a special attachment to Rye Bonfire Society.

Paul became a Rye Councillor shortly after the death of his father Bill. He is a Councillor of the ilk of a Rye Councillor of yesteryear, the selfless Alfred Horner, and like Alfred, Paul has buried himself in working for the town and more importantly, the people of Rye.

Paul stood for the Council as a Labour Candidate but does not vote on the party line unless he is supporting Rye.

Paul Carey served as Mayor of Rye before becoming one of the three District Councillors from Rye on the 45-strong Bexhill-dominated Rother District Council in 1999.
